Due to the tribal casino circuit that has sprung up in nearly every state, bands and musicians I grew up listening to have had a second chance at “life”. They’ve been resurrected by these smaller venues that can’t afford to book present day headliners and talent.
This has provided me the opportunity to see these performers for the first time – and usually I’m disappointed. Now that they’re much older (I know I am too), their sound isn’t as true to the original music I’ve listened to on cassette tapes while driving across the country. I want songs I love to SOUND like the songs I love – is that too much to ask?
While enjoying a stogie in the lounge at the Wild Horse Pass Casino in Chandler, AZ (just South East of Phoenix), the local band, “The Walkens” was setting up for a 7:00 performance. As they started playing, I was stunned at how true to the original recordings of the artists they “covered”. This was what I hoped to hear when the “old bands” played but had not yet found! It’s no wonder they have been named “Best of the Valley” by Foothills Magazine 3 years in a row! Check out their calendar on line and catch one of their shows.
Great entertainment – Bic lighters optional!
